YOU CAN VOTE seeks Civics Fellows

You Can Vote (YCV) works on ensuring that anyone who is eligible to vote is properly registered and educated about the current election and voting rules so they can vote. YCV seeks Civics Fellows to facilitate non-partisan voter education and registration. We develop volunteers into leaders and have a track record of success of doing just that.

Fellows will work under the supervision and mentorship of our experienced leadership, expert organizers who will ensure fellows have the training and support they need to be successful in setting and achieving goals for work in our communities.

    Responsibilities

Fellows will work closely with leaders and assist in developing voter education & turnout plans. This involves:

    • Identifying and recruiting volunteers who will educate and turn-out their peers.
    • Working with leaders to organize and execute events such as volunteer recruitment, trainings, and voter education drives.
    • Leading or ensuring another YCV captain can lead community event.
    • Working alongside new volunteers to coach them.
    • Coordinating with YCV’s organizers to assure there are sufficient materials for events.
    • Communicating with leaders to report and resolve any issues or problems before, during, or after events.

    Skills & Experience

YCV is looking for self-starters, willing to work with a wide variety of volunteers and volunteer leaders. All You Can Vote Civics Fellows must be willing to learn and comply with all non-partisan voter registration laws. We are especially interested in fellows whose qualities include:

    • Deep interest in social, economic and political justice in North Carolina
    • Strong verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise good judgment
    • Dual language skills a plus, especially Spanish
    • Desire to help build a sustaining non-partisan campaign for long-term civic involvement.

We are looking for an average commitment of 10 hours a week. People of color and individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnic background, citizenship status, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

Today a voter I approached said “I know I can’t vote – I heard on the news that I can’t vote because I don’t have a North Carolina ID.” She was thrilled when I told her we could register her and fill out an absentee ballot request right away to vote without photo ID from the convenience of her own home. In five minutes she was ready to go and will be a NC voter!

Stories of people who thought they would be unable to vote because of lack of ID.

Stories of people being truly grateful for our information.
